February is National AMD/Low Vision Awareness Month.  The following tips may assist those living with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma, cataracts, or another eye condition to continue to enjoy and accomplish everyday activities.

1.    Pay attention to indoor lighting.  Adding additional light and eliminating glare can often really enhance how well you are able to see.
2.    Explore the use of any number of adaptive devices that are available including hand held magnifiers, closed circuit televisions, talking clocks, large button phones, or absorptive lens that control amounts of light transmitted to the eye.

3.    Get organized!  Keep regularly used items like glasses, remote controls, and keys in the same place so they are easily located each time you need them.

4.    Ease mobility and orientation by marking steps and door handles with reflective tape.

5.    Use a voice recorder for reminders like grocery lists rather than relying on written notes.

6.    Throughout the home, mark frequently used settings, on the oven for example, with a swipe of brightly colored nail polish.
